English: Jack Sparrow is based on Pepé Le Pew my ass - he's based on Charles Vane

The character Jack Sparrow was created by screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, and is portrayed by Johnny Depp. The characterization of Sparrow is based on a combination of The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards and Looney Tunes cartoon character Pepé Le Pew.

Is this a fucking joke? Charles Vane is 100% the real Jack Sparrow.
Heard about him in  Black sails first, which is good so you won't find it on this blog. Just thought it's obvious this guy was the basis for Sparrow:

- he was one of the leaders of the pirates

stranded alone on an uninhabited island and a former pirate that sailed by, wouldn't take him on board, afraid he would lead his crew to mutiny, but still managed to escape later

set a ship on fire and sailed it towards enemy ships

- was friend with Black Beard

- was known to be a lucky guy and was very popular with his crew but none the less got put on a sloop by his crew for being coward in front of the enemy

- regained several times control over ships as Captain after loosing everything

...by the way, hollywood gold:

Disney executives were initially confused by Depp's performance, questioning whether the character was drunk or gay. While watching the rushes, Disney CEO Michael Eisner proclaimed Depp was ruining the film.

lol
